Are Metal Or Plastic Sheds Better?

Metal or plastic sheds have distinct qualities that are appealing to many. Knowing these can give a view of which is better shed for someone. Ultimately, it still depends on essential factors and subjective opinions. And it is also about one’s priorities and specific needs.

Qualities of plastic sheds

A few things people like about plastic sheds are that they are more affordable and durable than other types like wood. They can last for years and resist elements. Other advantages of using plastic sheds include the following:

  • No problem with termites-  A plastic shed can be a good investment if you live in an area where termites are a problem. These pests cannot destroy this outbuilding.
  • Easy to assemble. Plastic sheds usually come in pre-cut pieces that are easy to put together.
  • Low maintenance – Once a plastic shed is assembled, there is not much need to maintain it.
  • Available in a variety – No matter what your needs are, you should be able to find a plastic shed that has the ideal size, shape, and color for you.
  • Easy to transfer – If you need to move your shed, a plastic shed can be disassembled and then reassembled in its new location.
  • Environmentally friendly. Plastic sheds can be recycled when you are done with them. In that sense, they are a good choice for those concerned about the environment.                                                                                          Are Metal Or Plastic Sheds Better

Qualities of Metal sheds

Metal sheds also offer superb protection and withstand heavy winds and snowstorms without collapsing. They are also termite-resistant and doable to move from one place to another. Some other notable advantages of metal sheds include:

  • Fire resistant – If you live in an area prone to wildfires, a metal shed can help protect your belongings from being destroyed by fire.
  • Quick to construct and deconstruct – Metal sheds, particularly the pre-fabricated ones, are easy to put together. And if you need to move, a metal shed can also be transferred to its new location.
  • Require almost zero maintenance. Once a metal shed is formed, there is minimal demand for upkeep. It is especially if the metal parts have an anti-corrosion treatment.
  • Customizable – Metal sheds don’t always come in metallic gray and one size. You can have one with the color, size, and shape you prefer that blends in with your landscaping.
  • Eco-friendly– Metal parts can be recycled, too, when the shed’s life span ends. Therefore, there are fewer or no scraps to throw away.

Weighing the better one based on the weakness

In terms of advantages, metal and plastic sheds have the same qualities. It may boil down to which person chooses. However, these should not be the only points to consider. Remember that metal and plastic also have weaknesses or limitations. These are crucial to learn and compare to evaluate further which is better.

For example, hail and fallen tree limbs can damage a metal shed. And it will be hot inside during the summer months. Note also that without protective treatment, metal sheds can rust quickly.

In terms of durability, a plastic shed is not as durable as metal sheds. Fire can melt in no time, and exposure to cold temperatures or weather makes it brittle. A strong wind can also damage it. Moreover, plastic sheds tend to discolor over time.

Therefore, metal sheds are better if you consider which is durable against various and heavier elements. In this sense, it is most likely to have a longer lifespan than plastic sheds.
